Position Summary

 Quality Glass Alberta is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Commercial & Residential Glazing Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate possesses comprehensive knowledge of both large-scale commercial aluminum frame systems (including storefront and window wall) and custom residential glazing projects (showers, railings, mirrors, sealed units). This role is critical to our success, responsible for ensuring all bids are accurate, competitive, and profitable.

Key Responsibilities

 

 

1. Technical Estimating & Quoting (Commercial & Residential)

  • Blueprint Analysis: Accurately read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents for commercial and residential projects.
  • Cost Calculation: Prepare precise estimates for material (glass types, aluminum extrusions, hardware), fabrication time, labor requirements, and installation logistics.
  • Aluminum Systems: Utilize specialized knowledge of various commercial aluminum framing systems (e.g., thermal break, non-thermal, interior partitions) to calculate material cut lists and order requirements.
  • Vendor Management: Solicit, review, and negotiate pricing with glass and aluminum suppliers to ensure the most cost-effective solution is used.
  • Bid Management: Prepare, organize, and submit complete tender packages within specified deadlines.

2. Financial & Risk Management

  • Margin Control: Work closely with management to ensure all quotes meet predetermined profit margins and accurately capture overhead costs.
  • Scope Definition: Clearly define the project scope, identifying any potential risks, exclusions, or ambiguities to mitigate future change orders.
  • Change Orders: Prepare quick and accurate pricing for project changes during the construction phase.

3. Collaboration & Transition

  • Project Handoff: Transition successful bids to the Project Management and Installation teams, providing clear documentation, scope details, and material lists.
  • Client Communication: Serve as a key point of contact during the quoting process, answering contractor and client questions regarding technical specifications and pricing.
  • Software Utilization: Maintain and update estimating databases and project tracking systems [mention specific software if applicable, e.g., Bluebeam, Excel, specific industry software].

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years of dedicated experience as an Estimator within the glazing or construction industry.
  • Mandatory: Proven, expert-level knowledge of aluminum storefront, curtain wall, and window wall framing systems.
  • In-depth understanding of various glass types (tempered, laminated, insulated glass units (IGUs), low-E coatings) and applicable building codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large and small projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in reading and scaling construction documents and detailed shop drawings.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills; high attention to detail is essential.

 Quality Glass Alberta is seeking a dedicated and certified Automotive Glazier specializing in the safe and precise installation and repair of vehicle glass. This role is crucial for maintaining vehicle safety and structural integrity, and requires expertise in modern vehicle systems, including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibration procedures.

Key Responsibilities

 

1. Technical Installation and Repair

  • Windshield Replacement: Perform seamless, leak-free installation and replacement of all types of vehicle glass (windshields, back glass, side windows) across a diverse range of vehicles, including passenger cars, semi-trucks, and heavy farm equipment.
  • Adhesive Expertise: Strictly adhere to manufacturer specifications for primers, bonding agents, and installation techniques to ensure full compliance with Minimum Drive-Away-Time (DAT) standards.
  • Molding & Trim: Expertly remove and install moldings, cowl panels, and trim pieces without causing damage to the vehicle's interior or exterior finish.
  • Diagnosis: Accurately diagnose and repair water and air leaks related to existing glass installations.

2. Safety and Operational Compliance

  • Structural Integrity: Ensure all glass installations maintain the structural integrity of the vehicle, particularly concerning passenger safety and airbag deployment functionality.
  • ADAS Awareness: Possess a strong understanding of ADAS sensors and components mounted on windshields and work proactively with the team to facilitate post-installation calibration (if applicable).
  • Work Area Management: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, whether performing services in the shop or utilizing our mobile service vehicle.
  • Documentation: Complete detailed work orders accurately, including material consumption logs, time tracking, and necessary photo documentation.

3. Customer Service and Mobile Service Efficiency

  • Customer Interaction: Communicate clearly and professionally with vehicle owners and fleet managers regarding the repair process, estimated timelines, and necessary safety precautions (like DAT).
  • Mobile Service: Efficiently manage a daily route schedule for mobile service calls, ensuring punctuality and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction on site.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Certification: Must hold a recognized Glazier trade certification, with a specialization in Automotive Glass.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in automotive glass installation.
  • In-depth knowledge of current automotive glazing products, adhesives, and safe work practices.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy glass units and work in various weather conditions (for mobile service).

This is a vital role requiring expertise in aluminum storefront systems, insulated glass unit (IGU) replacement, custom shower installations, and high standards of quality and efficiency.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, proficient in both shop fabrication and field installation, and committed to excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

 

 

1. Commercial and Storefront Glazing

  • Aluminum Systems: Install, service, and repair commercial aluminum-framed doors, windows, and storefront systems, including necessary hardware adjustments and sealants.
  • Large-Scale Installation: Safely and accurately install large glass units, tempered glass, and laminated safety glass for commercial facades and interior partitions.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure all commercial installations meet local building codes and industry safety standards.

2. Residential and Custom Glazing

  • Window Replacement: Perform accurate measurement and installation of standard and custom insulated glass units (IGUs) into vinyl, wood, and metal frames.
  • Custom Interiors: Fabricate and install custom residential projects, including frameless shower enclosures, glass railings, back-painted glass, and custom mirrors.
  • Cut-to-Size: Expertly cut, edge glass and mirrors in the shop as required for custom projects and repairs.

3. Quality, Safety, and Documentation

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough pre- and post-installation checks to ensure a leak-free, functional, and aesthetically superior finish on every job.
  • Material Management: Accurately track material consumption, minimize breakage/waste, and maintain clean and organized work areas (both on-site and in the company vehicle).
  • Safety Protocol: Adhere strictly to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and job site safety procedures, including ladder and lift safety.
  • Paperwork: Complete all digital and physical work orders, time sheets, and client sign-offs accurately and promptly upon job completion.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Certification: Must hold a recognized Journeyman Glazier Trade Certification or have verifiable equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of demonstrable experience as an All-Round Glazier, specifically handling residential IGU replacement and commercial storefront systems.
